The new Republican, call it – the American Party

DB Reese

I thought that it wasn’t fair of me to just come out and start posting blogs without you getting to know a little bit about me and the point of view that I am coming from. This is my attempt at conveying at least some of those views that I have not just politics but life in general.

Political discussion and following what is going on in our world is something that I very much like to do. Sometimes it is just baffeling to watch it all unfold. And, even more so to watch what we allow to unfold. The twisting of words, the double talk, spin, it all reminds me of religion.

Religious leaders use “the word of God” to shape and influence societal direction in what they perceive to be the right course. As if “God” needed any help from a lowly creature called man to do anything. Which goes to show the arrogance and self absorbtion of man. The parallels between religion and politics are closely tied in that regard. Arrogance.

There are certian truths that we all can live by, the world religion as it were. I think we can all agree that it is wrong to murder someone, wrong to lie, wrong to cheat or steal just to name a couple of those truths. We do not need to be preached at by man to understand and accept these truths, we are born with them embedded in us. Hotwired into our conscience.

The politics of governing people has been turned into a religious art form. Much as the “law” passed down from one generation to the next before finally being written down on scrolls in the time before ink. Some how we have let governance of life supercede living life. The “laws” have turned us into a people who now have more than just our Gods to answer to. And if you give that a minute to sink in I would think that you would agree, thats just pretty funny. We have elevated ourselves above that of a God. Arrogance.

I am an agnostic. Some believe that I will surely burn in hell for my belief. Others feel that it is their duty and responsibility to cut my head off in order to secure their beliefs. All in the name of “God”. Most religions preach on the tolerance of others. Most political ideology preaches on the tolerance of others too. At the same time, neither are tolerant be it with ideology or religion. Once again, man has raised the horrible head of greed and corruption to solidify his own belief and force it onto the masses, of course for “God” though. And we’re to believe it, because “God” said so.

I tend to be a conservative by nature. Meaning that things need not change for the sake of seeing something change. I also am quite liberal. Meaning that the things that need to change should be sought after and changed. The benefits to society can be seen on both sides of the spectrum, the unfortunate thing is that neither end seems to realize when to shut up and take their foots off the gas pedal for awhile. Continuely seeking out more and more change on the liberal side, and constantly fighting back the need for change on the conservative side.

What is so hard about coming together and saying, live and let live (socially)? Or, by saying it is not the job of the government to pay for, employee, and otherwise live someone’s life for them.

I think if you have the experience and knowledge to do a job successfully then you should get the job based on that, its called merit. I don’t care if it is for the presidency or for a burger flipping job. I don’t care if you are black, white, yellow, red, green, purple or any color in between- can you do the job? It is either yes or no. No one should be given anything based on their color, sex, or affiliations. I think ‘redistribution’ of wealth is the same thing as stealing. Do we need to look after our indigent? Of course we do, but you can’t tell me that all the people who receive my money from taxes are indigent, we call that lying.

I don’t care who you marry. Marry your dog for all I care. Sleep with whom ever you wish. There are laws that prohibit public displays of affection. They were not written to keep Homosexuals from seeing one another. They were written so that little people with little eyes weren’t exposed to any inappropriate behavior, whether it was from hetero’s or homo’s. Get over the need to feel that you deserve special laws on the books because you are sexually active. And, on the same token, stop trying to make it illegal for someone to live their life pursuing what makes them happy, even though it isn’t what you would have them do- it’s none of your damn business.

ok, well thats enough for now, as always more to come.

monkeys and ass, never a good combination.  DB Reese

  • Welcome to WordPress. I’d argue that no one is attempting to prevent anyone from living their life or pursuing what makes them happy. (Assuming you are writing about opposition to gay marriage as you seem to be.) Everyone in America is free to spend their life with whomever they want and will have them, free to live together, free to hold a ceremony, free to draw up legal contracts, etc, etc — gay, straight, bi, whatever. Everyone has the same basic freedoms and no one is attempting to take them away. Conservatives only argue that if we are to change the definition of marriage and change the reason we have the government encourage it in the first place, that that decision should be left up to the people, not unelected judges with a political agenda.

Hi American Elephant and THANK YOU for the welcome!

Now to business;) People are going to do what people are going to do. It takes little or no encouraging one way or the other with regard to the topic at hand. Yes you are correct in saying that they are free to be with whom ever they chose, but until we as a society get over the arbitrary term of “marriage” then they do not possess the same legal rights as everyone else when it comes to issues such as insurances and the like. Which strikes me funny since insurance companies in the past have been in bed so to speak with the democratic party.
I am a republican, I am straight. It is time for the party of Lincoln to finally be everything that it can be. There is no turning back the hands of time, we will not rid society Homosexuality no matter how much certian religious groups may want it. It is degrading to them as humans and me as someone who swore to uphold the constitution.
Let them marry legally without demeaning it by calling it a union or ceremony and move on with the things that truly matter in the realm of politics. It will not cause the down fall of the economy or the destruction of the principles which continue to make our nation the greatest ever to be created by man.

Thanks again AE, its been a pleasure.
