What the hell were those old farts thinking? Congress shall make no laws abridging the freedom of speech? How ridiculous is that? What if someone says something hurtful, you mean to tell me there is no recourse, no action that I can take to make them stop saying hurtful things?
The First Amendment wasn’t written to protect those who spoke with a majority opinion. It was written to protect those who did NOT agree with the majority view points. In other words it was written for the little guys, so that their voices could be heard as well.
Most people love this amendment, most people value this amendment for what it is- most people.
There are those who would take this amendment away if it meant that they would have greater control within the government. People like Janet “Terrorrists aren’t bad people” Napolitano, Acting President Barrack “Who’s your Daddy”Hussein, Hillary”It took a village to raise my child” Clinton, Harry”I’m a Commie” Reid, Nancy “Crazy Women” Pelosi, and countless other Democrats who wish to re-enact the supposed “Fairness Doctrine” or other voice limiting legislation(unless they are the ones speaking of course).
They wish to decide what is the press and from there limit what is to them(talking points memo received) entertainment. If they can legislate it to the point where only the Associated Press and Reuters as well as the major networks are the only ones considered “real” journalist and everybody else falls into the entertainer camp, then my fellow Americans the jig will most certainly be up.
We bloggers who decided to voice our opinions, the radio talk show hosts, and even dare I say cable news channels will be silenced. At first this will come in the form of fines levied against us for speaking ill of the majority (which is what the “fairness doctrine” is- you cannot say anything negative about the “other side’s” views).
So in comes the speech police after the fines and court costs paid, will come the incarcerations much like that of the old Soviet Union and East Germany(hell Hitler’s Nazi Germany), China, Cuba, Venezuela, Spain, Iran, Syria, Pakistan and numerous others (I think you get the point). All really in the name of control over the people. It is the first step needed in order to reform this country into a purely Socialistic society made in their image. A place where dessent is not tolerated, ever.
No longer is America for by and of the people, our government has been allowed to grow to such a size that it is all consuming. It has to be to feed itself and it is fighting for it’s engorged survival and greater control is the only way that can be accomplished.
We haven’t completely let the crazy people take over the asylum, they have not as of yet taken away our voting “privileges” (but its coming too), so my recommendation foranyone who dares to care, write or call your representatives and senators. There are links on the right side of my page to congress, tell them if any form of a “fairness doctrine” is pushed through congress then you will go on a campaign to insure that they are not voted back into office. While you’re at it tell them DB Reese said kiss his ass!
